Is Twitter a good source for information?

There are so many hotels to choose from and many web sites to use but have you ever considered using twitter, one of the largest communication plat forms. Take Best Western for example they are known for hotels and have a twitter page with:
  • 84.4k followers
  • 4969 likes
  • 2,124 photos and videos
  • 24.2k tweets
Best Western connects with their customers by tweeting every day about their rewards, promotions, discounts, coupons, advertisements and motivational quotes to engage their customers. For example, as part of their rewards program, Best Western has an app that allows you to collect points with every stay at the hotel. The Sandman Hotels also use twitter, they have:
  • 920 photos and videos
  • 6,555 tweets
Sandman tweets less on their page but still has rewards, promotions, discounts, coupons and advertisements on their twitter page. For example, Sandman hotel tweets a promotion saying “save 35% in 72 hours”. Both brands have information on Twitter; however Best Western seems to have a larger following. The key words that Best Western uses are #bestwestern, #BWR30, #todaysBW, #sweaterweather, #motivationMondway and #vacation and for Sandman hotel it’s #dreamwithsandman and #welcometothefamily. Best Western and Sandman hotels follow the 50/50 rule because they keep readers engaged, keep things interesting, repost, share great deals and videos that viewers may like. As for Best Western, their most successful recent tweet was pinned on March 09 showing the new renovations of their hotels; it had 59 likes, 22 retweets and 29 comments on the tweet, clearly showing that customers are interested and are aware that the hotel has improved. The pinned tweet for Best Western is shown below.

Sandman hotel’s most successful recent tweet was on April 11 where the hotel showed support for the great tragedy of the Humboldt Broncos, showing customers that they care. Sandman doesn’t use twitter to the best potential for advertising and promoting their brands. Below is a copy of the tweet showing support.
Platforms like Twitter grant instant communication with customers, allowing a company to get instant feedback, when used properly they can effectively build their brand. Best Western definitely uses Twitter more efficiently then Sandman, but both have not exhausted this outlet.
