Toronto’s most Sought Hotels (BISHA & Holiday Inn)
Social media is the new guide for vacationers
Umer Junejo
Bisha and Holiday Inn are on different scales of the spectrum. Bisha is a high-end/ Premium Hotel with major location in the heart of Downtown Toronto. While Holiday-Inn is, an affordable hotel located across all major cities. These hotels are few of the most sought after hotels in their own category. Bisha Hotel, which is a luxurious hotel is well known for their Comfort, Luxury as well as a lot of celebrity sightings, because of TIFF (TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL), that is sponsored by the hotel. Holiday Inn on the other hand is a cost-effective hotel, that is chosen by thousands of people who are vacationing across all major Canadian Cities.
Both these brands have successful Social media accounts in the category they compete in, which is the lower to high-end hotel segment. These Hotels have a big difference in their following on both Platforms (Facebook, twitter) but that’s because of the segment they compete in. Bisha is a One location premium hotel while Holiday Inn is an affordable hotel with multiple locations throughout all the major cities in Canada, as well as worldwide
Who has a better Facebook Account: Bisha vs Holiday Inn
Analyzing their Facebook accounts
Umer Junejo
If you were to glance at the accounts of both these companies, you would think Holiday Inn is way bigger and probably better due to their popularity. As it has way more followers and likes then Bisha. But when you closely analyze the type of hotels they are, and the type of consumers they market too you can tell why Holiday Inn is way bigger on social media. This is the current state of the followers and likes on Facebook for both of these brands:
Facebook
Followers
Likes
Bisha
2,598
2,530
Holiday Inn
1,043,509
1,054,109
  • The reason for this Huge gap in their Facebook accounts is due to the fact that I had stated earlier, which is that Bisha is a One Location Premium Hotel, while Holiday Inn is a worldwide Chain.
First let’s talk about Holiday Inn, they use their Facebook account for mainly promotional posts about their hotels and encouraging tweets like supporting Charity runs and donations. This account is updated with new posts often, but I wouldn’t say regularly or frequently. The reason I say this is because of the amount of time gap during some of the posts, some are as long as 7 days. The brand uses the 50/50 rule sometimes as seen through their Facebook account, they mainly use it to promote their hotels and the services that their hotels offer. One of the most successful posts for Holiday-Inn on Facebook is this post:
  • This Post has 4.1 thousand views. This is one of the most viewed recent posts. This post was really successful because It’s positioned really well, and it grabs the customer’s attention, especially families. Families are generally big, and when a hotel promotes how “Kids stay and eat free with us”, It can be a big decision maker for them because now are they saving money.
Now let’s talk about Bisha Hotel. Bisha is a new hotel, that opened in Nov 27th, 2017 so their Facebook page was formed about a year ago. Even though their page was formed about a year ago. They have posted a lot throughout the year, most of their earlier posts were promoting the hotel itself and the spectacular views that it offers, now they post about the events that take place at Bisha and promote their Catering, Event hosting done at the hotel. Bisha has posted a lot, especially considering they opened last year, but they also don’t update their account regularly, as I have seen gaps of almost 4 to 10 days. Through their Facebook page, I wouldn’t say that they use the 50/50 rule because they mainly promote their own services and business. They were posting about TIFF (Toronto International Festival) but that’s due to the fact that they were hosting it.
  • This Post has almost 312 likes. This a high number of likes compared to every other post they have. The reason this picture stands out is due to how eye catching it is. First, they try to lure you in with all the beautiful pictures of the view and hotel rooms, and on top of that they offer you incentives to stay with them. This is excellent marketing by them and have caught a lot of peoples interests as seen by likes.
